The East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) chapter of Sigma Phi Omega, the national honor society in gerontology, recently inducted three new students into its membership. Inductees were: Kira Carlisle, a junior from Spring Grove, Pa.; Stephanie Outwater, a senior from Shohola, Pa. and Andrea Veres, a junior from Phillipsburg, N.J.<\/p>\n
All inductees are speech-pathology majors in the gerontology concentration, an interdisciplinary program to provide concentrated knowledge in gerontology to supplement the course work completed in the student’s academic major. The gerontology program, which prepares students to work directly or indirectly with older adults, is open to students in any major.<\/p>\n
The guest speaker at the ceremony was Mark Hodgson, the director of the VNA\/Hospice of Monroe County. He spoke on issues in home care and hospice care.<\/p>\n
Sigma Phi Omega serves to recognize outstanding educational or community service achievements in the field of aging.<\/p>\n
