The University Leadership Award<\/strong> was presented to Felicia Revero of Sewell, N.J., and the University Service Award<\/strong> was presented to Nico E. Ramirez of Dingmans Ferry, Pa. at spring commencement exercises at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) on Saturday, May 18, 2013.<\/p>\n

The University Leadership Award<\/strong> is the highest non-academic honor a senior can receive for performance in demonstrating leadership in student officer positions and in other extra-curricular activities.<\/p>\n

The University Service Award<\/strong> is presented to an outstanding senior who has demonstrated exceptional service to the university through on-campus extra-curricular activities. To be eligible for the awards, a student must have attended the university for at least two years and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.60 or above.<\/p>\n

Felicia Revero,<\/strong> earned her bachelor\u2019s degree in theatre with a minor in women\u2019s studies at Saturday\u2019s ceremony. She has been an active member of the campus community during her tenure as an undergraduate student.<\/p>\n

Revero has represented her fellow students as the student trustee on the ESU Council of Trustees for two years. She was also the founding student of a new university center on campus called, V.O.I.C.E. (Victims Options in the Campus Environment) which is intended to help students with issues related to relationship violence. Revero also served as a member of the Violence Against Women Grant Committee, which initially sought the funding for the aforementioned center.<\/p>\n

Revero was also an active member of Stage II, the student theatre organization for two and a half years and represented the organization as secretary for two semesters, vice president for one semester and president for one semester. Ms. Revero was an orientation leader\/mentor for one year and participated in ESU\u2019s \u201cI Can Help\u201d program for one semester. She was also active in ESU\u2019s Women for Awareness\/Feminist Alliance student organization for two years, serving as president for one semester, co-president for one year and vice president for one semester.<\/p>\n

Susan Eldridge from Sewell, N.J. is Revero\u2019s aunt and guardian.<\/p>\n

Nico Ramirez<\/strong>\u00a0received his bachelor\u2019s degree in biology during the spring commencement ceremonies.<\/p>\n

Ramirez served as a resident hall adviser for two years and as a head resident adviser for an additional year.\u00a0He was also involved in ESU\u2019s Orientation and New Student Programs as an orientation leader for two years, head orientation leader for one year and a new student mentor for three years. Ramirez was a member of the Latin American Association at ESU and served as a member of the organization for three years \u2013 as the organization\u2019s secretary for one semester and as vice president for one year.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Ramirez also served as a member of the following student organizations and university committees:\u00a0staff training committee, one year; SOUL (Sexual Orientation and University Life) committee, one year; diversity committee, one year; Christian Fellowship, one and a half years; and the student presidential inauguration committee, one semester.<\/p>\n

Ramirez is the son of Leticia and Edward Ramirez of Dingmans Ferry, Pa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
