This is another attempt by ESU to minimize the negative impact on current faculty while reducing course offerings in departments with significantly less student demand. The over-arching intent of these program modifications at ESU are intended to address the university’s projected $6.9 million deficit for the 2014-2015 academic year.

According to Dr. Van Reidhead, provost and vice president for academic affairs, these faculty members received letters of notification this afternoon, offering them the opportunity to teach within another department at ESU. The faculty members have 24 hours to either accept or reject the transfer. Further, the positions being offered to these eight faculty members are not new positions; they are reallocated from voluntary retirement incentive program (VRIP) positions that were vacated earlier this year. The positions they are leaving will not be filled.

Additional updates relative to ESU’s plans for department and program modifications are expected by Wednesday, October 30.

[42

post-7572","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news-release
