Distinguished Professor of Biological Sciences Jane E. Huffman, Ph.D., will be the grand marshal for East Stroudsburg University\u2019s graduate commencement exercises at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2013, and the undergraduate commencement exercises at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2013, in Koehler Fieldhouse.<\/p>\n
Dr. Huffman became a faculty member at East Stroudsburg University in 1986. She earned her bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees in biology from the University of Connecticut, a master\u2019s in public health from East Stroudsburg University and her doctorate in microbiology from Rutgers University.<\/p>\n
Having taught a variety of courses throughout her career at ESU, including, \u201cMicrobiology,\u201d \u201cVirology,\u201d \u201cPathogenic Microbiology,\u201d \u201cWildlife Diseases\u201d and \u201cThe Physical Environment and Community Health,\u201d she is the department\u2019s graduate program coordinator, the director of the Northeast Wildlife DNA Laboratory and also has been the faculty advisor for the ESU Business Plan Competition.<\/p>\n
Dr. Huffman has edited and coauthored several books, including Wildlife Forensics: Techniques and Applications<\/i>, Wildlife Diseases: Landscape Epidemiology, Spatial Distribution and Utilization of Remote Sensing Technology<\/i> and Pandemic Influenza Viruses: Science, Surveillance and Public Health. <\/i>She has published more than 65 articles on topics within her area of expertise and has received numerous grants from the National Science Foundation, Wildlife Forever, N.J. Fish & Wildlife and others during her professional career.<\/p>\n
In 2002, Dr. Huffman received the Great Teacher Award from the ESU Alumni Association. That same year, she delivered the University\u2019s \u201cLast Lecture\u201d titled: Wildlife Microbiology: What was I Thinking?<\/i> Five years later, the university selected her as a Distinguished Professor.<\/p>\n
Professor Huffman is a member of the Wildlife Disease Association, American Society of Parasitologists, Pennsylvania Academy of Sciences and the Society for Wildlife Forensic Science. She served as president of the Pennsylvania Academy of Science from 2004 to 2006.<\/p>\n
Dr. Huffman resides in Knowlton Township, N.J., with her husband Douglas, a wildlife pathologist.\u00a0 Her son, Eric, is a judge advocate in the United States Marine Corps in San Diego, California.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
