Mary Ellen McNish, an East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania graduate and president and CEO of The Hunger Project, addressed a large crowd for the presentation she gave on Thursday, March 6.<\/p>\n
The night began with a reception for McNish, a 1968 alumna, at the home of ESU President Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D., before she spoke to students, faculty and staff members and community members at Beers Lecture Hall. McNish began by briefly recounting her time at ESU and the women\u2019s rights movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Her involvement in different activist women\u2019s rights groups led to her helping women in impoverished areas of the world. When talking about her role now as the CEO and president of\u00a0 The Hunger Project, she spoke of the work that the group is doing throughout the world. She stated how equality for women is progress for all, and she emphasized how The Hunger Project empowers women and men in impoverished areas of Africa and Asia through education which gives them the ability to learn how to help themselves.\u00a0She contends that by 2030 world hunger will be eliminated.<\/p>\n
After her lecture, McNish met with interested students and discussed various opportunities available to them to serve others in the fight against hunger.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
