During his prolific musical career, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed more than 600 memorable works while also working as a performer and conductor. From all of these musical endeavors, Mozart himself would consider the composition of operas to be his most important professional activity.<\/p>\n
In a talk, \u201cThe School for Lovers and Why was Opera so Important to Mozart,\u201d opera enthusiast Eugene Galperin, Ph.D., assistant professor of mathematics at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, will discuss Mozart\u2019s dramatic art and emotional reach and his ability to breathe life, depth and humanity into archetypal characters.<\/p>\n
The presentation will be on Monday, April 21, at 7 p.m. in the Dale Snow Theatre of ESU\u2019s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets. It is open to the public at no cost.<\/p>\n
The talk, the sixth presentation of the lecture series, \u201cWhy Opera Still is Relevant Today,\u201d is geared toward people with little or no knowledge of opera and will provide an introduction to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\u2019s opera, \u201cCosi Fan Tutte,\u201d one of the Metropolitan Opera\u2019s Live-In-HD series designed to make outstanding opera productions accessible to audiences throughout the world.<\/p>\n
\u201cCosi fan Tutte\u201d will be screened Saturday, April 26, at 12:55 p.m. and Wednesday, April 30, at 6:30 p.m. at Cinemark Theater in the Stroud Mall.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese broadcasts have been going on for years and most students haven\u2019t been aware,\u201d Galperin said. \u201cI attempted to spark some interest and increase attendance of these broadcasts. After my previous five talks during the past year, several students and community members attended the broadcast for the first time.\u00a0That was encouraging, and I would like to keep it going.\u201d<\/p>\n
