A new initiative at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania focuses on offering certificate programs that will help students and professionals advance in their careers.

Certificate programs are concentrations of courses designed to enhance knowledge and skills in key areas. By earning the credential, students will become more attractive and useful to employers.

The College of Arts and Sciences proudly announces four new certificate programs in the areas of geographic and information systems (GIS), 3D printing and product design, business writing and crisis intervention.

The GIS certificate will give students marketable skills in GIS and remote sensing, technology that is used extensively throughout private, public, and nonprofit sectors.

The 3D printing and product design certificate shows students how to use the latest 3D equipment in graphic and object design.

The business writing certificate will enhance a student’s ability to write effectively in the workplace.

The crisis intervention certificate prepares students to assess and de-escalate crises in a variety of health and human service settings.

Whether as a stand-alone credential or as part of an undergraduate degree, the certificate typically involves a package of four or five courses. If an ESU undergraduate takes the courses as part of their baccalaureate degree, costs are covered by general tuition. A stand-alone 12-credit certificate costs about $5,000 in tuition and fees, less than the cost of an undergraduate degree.

Certificates can be helpful for students who wish to stand out from their peers in the job market, and are a good option for professionals who wish to continue their education in their field of work.

“Certificates are becoming a popular option as more universities begin to offer them,” said Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Peter Hawkes, Ph.D. “The programs offered at ESU range across disciplines and are offered in a mixture of classes, both face-to-face and online.”

To add a certificate, current students should go to their MyESU portal, hit the e-warrior tab, and then add a major/certificate.
