East Stroudsburg University students, faculty, and staff will join Women’s Resources of Monroe County at the annual Take Back the Night march and rally on Tuesday, April 16. Take Back the Night is designed to raise awareness about sexual and domestic violence, support survivors, and empower men and women to feel safe at night, while also advocating for bystander intervention. Since the 1970s, thousands of colleges, domestic violence shelters, and rape crisis centers have held Take Back the Night events all over the country, focusing on eliminating sexual and domestic violence in all forms.
Participants are asked to meet at the Dansbury Depot, 5 S. Kistler St., East Stroudsburg at 5:30 p.m. The march will begin at 6 p.m. making a stop a at Lehigh Valley Health Network – Pocono for a moment of silence for the survivors who were treated at the facility. The march will continue to ESU and end with a rally at 6:30 p.m. on Mitterling Field, A2 on the campus map. The rally will feature speakers from Women’s Resources of Monroe County and ESU faculty, staff and students.
The Take Back the Night march and rally is open to the public at no cost. For more information about this event, please contact Eugene Kelly, Ph.D., interim dean of student life at 570-422-3463 or email ekelly2@esu.edu.
