East Stroudsburg University’s Provost’s Colloquium Series, an intellectual experience that promotes dialogue among ESU faculty, staff, students, and community, continues this fall. ESU Art + Design Visiting Scholar Xiaoting Ji, Ph.D., will present “Chinese Animation” on Wednesday September 25, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. in Beers Lecture Hall. The lecture is open to the public at no cost.
Asian animation is very popular in the west, particularly Japanese anime. China also has a history of animation development and has developed animation styles using a variety of materials before the advent of digital animations. This use of traditional techniques forms the foundation of animation as it is taught in China.
Professor Ji will make two short presentations: the first on the history of Chinese animation which includes the various materials used in the development of non-digital animation, and the second on the development of a student project from concept to finished animation.
Xiaoting Ji is Professor of Design at Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai, China and teaches in the Xiejin Film and Television Art College. She has worked on several informational materials on animation and translated several books from English to Chinese. In 2013, as a graduate student assistant to Professor Sun, she accompanied the first group of Shanghai Normal University art students to the U.S, where they were hosted by ESU.
