Faculty and Students Set to Present at Eastern Psychological Association Annual Conference

Faculty and students of East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania will present research at the Eastern Psychological Association Annual Conference in Boston, Mass., Thursday, March 16 through Saturday, March 18.

Founded in 1896, the Eastern Psychological Association is the oldest regional Psychological Association in the United States. The goal of EPA is to advance the science and profession through the dissemination of professional information about the field of psychology. The annual conference attracts approximately 2,000 professors, graduate students, and undergraduate students in psychology from New England and the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States.

Anthony Drago, Ed.D., professor of psychology and department chair, has been invited to lead a symposium on how to assure the delivery of a cost-effective curriculum for undergraduate students in psychology. Dr. Drago was specifically invited because of ESU’s reputation in the region as a cost-effective, high-quality psychology program.

In addition to Drago’s presentation, Sussie Eshun, Ph.D., professor of psychology and Bonnie Green, Ph.D., professor of psychology, will be presenting research they have been conducting with undergraduate students and scholars from other regional institutions.

Presentations include:

“Culture, Gender, and Mental Health Stigmatization: Variations in Self- and Other-Stigma Perception” presented by Dr. Eshun, Caitlyn Trainer ’16, Sandi-Lynn Eshun, a Mount Holyoke College junior majoring in psychology, and Agata Kopacz, an ESU senior from East Stroudsburg, Pa. majoring in psychology.

“HIV Knowledge and Perception: Changes after Exposure to HIV Health Education Information” presented by Dr. Eshun, Kopacz, and Erin Miller ’16.

“The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning: Federally Funded Grants and Psychological Research” presented by Michelle Jones-Wilson, Ph.D., professor of chemistry, Olivia Carducci, Ph.D., professor of mathematics, Dr. Green, John Darsinos, interim statistician at ESU, and Samantha Reilly, a senior from Doylestown, Pa. majoring in psychology.

“Creation and Validation of a Measure for Evaluating Service Learning” presented by: Dr. Green and Dominika Douckova ’16.

“Validating a Measure: Financial Aid Literacy” presented by Destany Labar, a senior from Cresco, Pa. majoring in mathematics, Abigail Kaspszyk, a junior from Kunkletown, Pa. majoring in psychology, Raquel Sosa, a junior from East Stroudsburg, Pa. majoring in communication, Adannia Ufondu, a junior from Stroudsburg, Pa. majoring in psychology, Dwayne Bynum a sophomore from Walden, N.Y. majoring in psychology, and Shannon Condello ’16.

“Implicit Attitudes Regarding the 2016 Presidential Elections” presented by Reilly, Toni-Ann McErlean, a senior from Northampton, Pa. majoring in psychology, Ariel Tucci, a junior from Douglassville, Pa. majoring in psychology, and Keith Young-Smith, a senior from Philadelphia, Pa. majoring in psychology.

“Measuring Organizational Diversity” presented by Gabriella Talijan, a senior from Saylorsburg, Pa. majoring in psychology, Taylor Bess, a sophomore from Phillipsburg N.J. majoring in psychology, Omari Lewis, a senior from Stroudsburg, Pa. majoring in psychology, Theresa Gehring, a senior from Stroudsburg, Pa. majoring in criminal justice, Alejandra Gomez, a junior from East Stroudsburg, Pa. majoring in psychology, and Kaseem Parsley, a junior from Stroudsburg, Pa. majoring in psychology.
