Students from East Stroudsburg University’s Sigma Pi Epsilon Delta honorary for the Special Education and Rehabilitation Department recently donated $1,000 to the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) through the Lehigh Valley Health Network. Sigma Pi Epsilon Delta’s mission is to serve people with disabilities in the local community and beyond. NFP works with low income, first-time parents in Monroe County and has offices across the country.
Members from NFP and LVHN met with the Sigma Pi Epsilon Delta officers and their faculty advisors on May 9 at the NFP office in Stroudsburg, Pa. to accept the donation. Funds for this donation were generated through fundraising efforts at local restaurants and by selling popcorn, and will support NFP services by providing resources to purchase specialized equipment intended to support mothers and children within the local community who have disabilities.
“I’ve served on the NFP Community Advisory Board for many years and know how important it is to provide support to families who face challenges as they are just getting started,” said Heather Garrison, Ph.D., co-chair of ESU’s Sigma Pi Epsilon Delta and associate professor of special education and rehabilitation and human services at ESU. “These honorary members are extremely supportive of community programs for individuals with disabilities and recognize that their donations will make a difference in the lives of many people.”
The 2019 officers of Sigma Pi Epsilon Delta are all seniors majoring in special education and early childhood education. They are: Alexis Ackerman, president, from Flanders, N.J.; Randi Aubry, vice president, from Brick, N.J.; Kierstan Wambold, secretary, from Wind Gap, Pa.; Kaley Przybylinski, treasurer, from Huntington Valley, Pa.; and Raquel Appice, historian, from Cliffside Park, N.J.
