The Korean American Association for Sport Management (KAASM) featured two East Stroudsburg University professors in its most recent newsletter.
Jaedeock Lee, Ph.D., associate professor and chair of the sport management department, was featured in an article about his leadership role as chair of the department. In the article, Dr. Jaedeock Lee gives an overview of his responsibilities including recruiting retaining students, and obtaining Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA) for ESU’s sport management program. In the article he says, “Begin taking ownership of different projects and assignments, and don’t be afraid to take a leader role. Sometimes you need to step up and come out of your comfort zone to realize your potential.”
In the same newsletter Minkyo Lee, Ph.D., assistant professor of sport management, was featured in an article about transiting from a doctoral student to a faculty member. In the article, Dr. Minkyo Lee talks about challenges he faced regarding his visa and how he overcame the obstacle with the help of his doctoral advisor. He also mentioned the biggest difference between being a student and a faculty, “As an assistant professor, there have been more responsibilities that I had not expected, like advising students for class registration,” he said. He also gave advice to current doctoral students, “I’d like to suggest the current doctoral students make strategic plans, like writing journal articles and job searching.”
The KAASM was founded in June 2016 to help serve the various needs of Korean scholars in the field of sport management. The organization is incorporated as a nonprofit organization and is dedicated to expanding knowledge and developing a global network among Korean scholars. The KAASM strives to facilitate scholarly exchanges and collaborations among members, provide resources for members’ scholarly development such as research, travel grants and mentoring programs, support and recognize members’ excellent achievements, and foster social exchanges among members of all backgrounds.
