ESU Professor Speaks at German-American Chamber of Commerce Event

In a world where 80% of jobs do not get posted, Christopher Brooks, Dr. phil., knows networking is an important skill. On April 15, the German-American Chamber of Commerce Philadelphia hosted an event titled “Local Networking, Global Opportunities,” for which Brooks, associate professor of history at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, was the keynote speaker.
This well-attended event proved to be an excellent networking opportunity for young professionals in the Greater Philadelphia area who share an interest in business and relations with Germany.
Dr. Brooks shared his German professional life experiences. A published author, Dr. Brooks spent time studying and living in the EU while teaching German-based organizations translating and negotiating skills, legal English and business English. He also worked as a consultant to job-seekers wishing to work transatlantically.
“Networking internationally is significantly different,” he said. Brooks discussed the importance of understanding the German-American relationship, and said that having a general understanding of any international relationship shows a level of respect and interest.
Credit to his networking skills, Brooks was invited to tour a major, Philadelphia-based, logistics company the following day. Representatives from the company expressed their interest in potentially hiring ESU graduates, which Brooks hopes will become a solid opportunity in the future.

That’s amazing!
Prof. Brooks was probably the most intense professor I had. He was my professor for a general history course during my very first semester at ESU. His class was tough but I learned how to apply the right positive mindset and aptitude to study effectively for any course afterwards.
Plus, since I got to know him through several office hour visits, I am happy to note that he is probably one of the most smartest and well-versed professionals that I have ever met.
I’m happy that he’s continuing his life’s work to empower ESU students in their careers. He was a huge motivator early on, so I’m thankful for his help.
Thanks for sharing this story!
