Pocono Arts Council hosted the launch of children’s book, “The Colorful World of Emily: The First Day of School,” on Saturday, October 20. The book focuses on diversity and acceptance and also teaches children how to cope with insecurities they may face. It appeals to children ages 4 to 8. The book features the illustrations of East Stroudsburg University Student Chelsea Bacon, a junior art + design major from Palmer, Pa. and member of the University’s student-run design agency, New Mind Design. This is Bacon’s first published body of work as an illustrator.
Kiki Charriez is the author of the book. She is an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Air Force and former Business Development Sales Manager in New York. As a book author, Charriez hopes to encourage young readers to love, learn and overcome using her own words to tell encouraging stories. She believes that teaching multiculturalism and diversity creates a society where all children can embrace being themselves. This is Charriez’s first book.
