Four student learning assistants from East Stroudsburg University recently attended and made a presentation at the College Reading and Learning Association of Pennsylvania and New Jersey Conference in Bethlehem, Pa.
ESU students Jonathon Schillinger, a senior philosophy and chemistry major from Effort, Jasmine Aldras, a senior medical technology major from East Stroudsburg, Everett Cooke, a junior biological sciences major from Hatboro and Haley Zuchowski, a junior majoring in social work from Wellsboro , collaborated on a presentation titled “The Most Effective Facilitation Techniques and Learning Strategies for the Sciences.” The session focused on the learning strategies and facilitation techniques that can be used in high-fail rate courses.
The conference was intended to engage participants in meaningful discussions about their role in and out of the classroom with students and faculty, share their most effective session plans, engage in discussion with the audience about the most effective learning strategies and facilitation techniques to use and the least effective to use when working with students in chemistry, biology, and sociology. Constraints within the current program and areas for improvement were also be discussed among participants.
