East Stroudsburg University welcomed its first cohort of dual enrollment high school students interested in becoming future educators at a kick-off event on April 3.

A total of 14 students from Freedom and Liberty High Schools in the Bethlehem Area School District (BASD) will take university level courses, beginning with Child Development and Cognition. The class will be offered at ESU’s Lehigh Valley Campus on Broad Street in Bethlehem, and will include a two-week “internship” opportunity for students to mentor with elementary and middle school teachers in BASD.

The event was led by Dr. Nurun Begum, associate professor and chair of early childhood and elementary education; Dr. Jack Silvam, assistant superintendent and chief academic officer of the Bethlehem Area School District; Dr. Jessica Santiago, assistant professor and director of the Warrior Success Program; and Dr. Erica Greer, instructor of early childhood and elementary education.
