The Physical Education Teacher Education Program (PETE) at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania — which is nationally accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) — recently received National Recognition status from SHAPE America – Society of Health and Physical Educators.
To achieve National Recognition, the PETE program completed a thorough review process, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in teacher preparation and ensuring that graduates are well-equipped to teach standards-based health and physical education in schools nationwide (grades preK-12).
“Our faculty should be very proud of the work they are doing. The bar has been set very high for ESU students studying in the Physical Education Teacher Education and Health Education Teacher Education (HETE) programs and this National Recognition status validates the educational importance of our program,” said Dr. Brian Street, dean of ESU’s College of Health Sciences. “Our students benefit learning in a nationally accredited education program for teacher preparation.”
As the Specialized Professional Association (SPA) for CAEP accreditation of both PETE and HETE programs, SHAPE America defines the relevant content-area standards and provides training to support those programs with standards implementation and report preparation.
“SHAPE America congratulates East Stroudsburg University’s PETE program on their National Recognition status,” said SHAPE America CEO Stephanie Morris. “We look forward to supporting these educators as they continue to elevate the standards of teacher education, contributing to the success of future health and physical education teachers.”
