ESU’s Lehigh Valley Center Launches Free Summer Roundtable and Lecture Series July 24 Focused on Customer Service, Computer Science Problem Solving

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) will offer a series of short lectures and roundtable discussions this month and in August at its Lehigh Valley Center, 60 West Broad Street in historic Bethlehem.

The Summer Roundtable and Lecture Series is offered at no cost and is open to the general public. Each event will feature short, topical presentations delivered by members of ESU’s faculty, followed by audience discussion. The lecture series is not only a chance for professors to share their most recent academic work with the community, but, according to Jennifer Serowick, director of extended learning for ESU, these presentations offer ESU’s campus community an opportunity to develop a dialogue with local communities through an open exchange of ideas and shared experiences.

The first roundtable, featuring Bradford Seid, Ed.D., professor of recreation services management and Haklin Kimm, Ph.D., professor of computer science, will take place on July 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lehigh Valley Center. Dr. Seid will lead group discussion on the basics of quality guest and customer service, focusing on the changing landscape of customer expectations and the qualities that define exceptional business owners and managers in service industries. Dr. Kimm will present his research on Coastline Satellite Image Analysis and lead a discussion on how to apply computer science problem-solving techniques to real world problems.

Another roundtable is scheduled for August 14, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Lehigh Valley Center that will focus on Affordable Care Act in Pennsylvania, and Securing Your Home Computer.

The Lehigh Valley Center will also host a Kids’ Corner on its front patio on July 27 and August 31 from 4 – 8 p.m. Kids’ Corner is part of historic Bethlehem’s continuing ArtWalk series and will feature pottery painting, drawing contests, and interactive performances by the Pennsylvania Youth Theater.

Meeting spaces within ESU’s Lehigh Valley Center are also available to community and business groups for large and small conferences at a nominal cost.  Each room features state-of-the-art equipment, including smart podiums, dual-projector screens for video and computer presentations and video-conferencing abilities. There is also a computer lab with 35 work stations.
