A group of students from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania recently traveled to Harrisburg, Pa., for the second annual Senior Transitions Conference geared toward helping seniors with the experiences they will have as new professionals entering the workforce.
The event, sponsored by ESU’s Career Development Center, the Office of Student Affairs and the Student Activity Association, was March 29-30 and featured students from five other universities, including fellow PASSHE schools Mansfield, Lock Haven and Bloomsburg.
During the two-day program, students had the opportunity to hear keynote speakers, take part in a dining etiquette presentation, participate in workshops and mock interviews, and hear presentations.
“The energy of the conference was a positive one and made me feel better about myself,” said Marcin Serfin, a senior from Stroudsburg, Pa., majoring in business management.
Daria Wielebinski, director of ESU’s career development center, and Alicia Middleton, a graduate student from East Stroudsburg, Pa., who works in the career development office, accompanied the nine ESU students who attended and assisted in the conference facilitation.
“I personally recommend this conference to all seniors who want to jump-start their careers,” said Emelie Paulino, a senior from South Ozone Park, N.Y., majoring in psychology. “I learned a ton and was able to inquire about a possible position in an insurance company through my mock interview.”
