ESU Presents The 39 Steps

“Hitchcock meets hilarious” is how Director Stephanie Daventry French, professor of theatre, described the upcoming production of The 39 Steps, a lighthearted adaptation by Patrick Barlow of the classic film, which is being presented February 28 – March 5 by East Stroudsburg University’s Department of Theatre.

To bring this 2008 Drama Desk award winner, with an abundance of zany characters and fast-paced action, to the ESU stage, French and set designer Emma McDonough, a junior from Matamoras, Pa. majoring in technical theater, have reconfigured the interior of the Fine and Performing Arts Center’s Dale Snow Theatre to provide multiple playing areas for the comedy’s many scenes.

ESU One of the First in the World and Designated as Stratasys Super Lab

When Stratasys, a corporation that leads the world in 3D printers, launched the J750 3D printer in 2015, the company provided only three universities in the world with the new printer: East Stroudsburg University, Columbia University and New York University. This technology now provides ESU students with state-of-the-art experiences in the exciting field of additive manufacturing.

Based at Babson College in Wellesley, Mass., the program’s 26 apprentices took classes in movement, voice and Shakespearean text analysis. They also received individual coaching. The apprentices performed in one of two Shakespearean plays, Cymbeline and Measure for Measure and supported the company’s main production of Love’s Labour’s Lost, presented on Boston Common.
