Career Website Names East Stroudsburg No. 1 Place to be a Teacher

A career website has named East Stroudsburg as the top place in the nation to be a teacher just as a shortage of educators is expected to create hot demand for new teachers in the region.

The web site Zippia, which provides career information for a wide array of professions, ranked the East Stroudsburg area as the No. 1 community for teachers. Zippia gets no argument from Terry Barry Ed.D., dean of the College of Education at East Stroudsburg University.

New Director of Graduate and Extended Studies Named

Joanne Bruno, J.D., provost and vice president of academic affairs at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU), announced the appointment of William J. Bajor, Ph.D. as the director of graduate and extended studies.

Dr. Bajor comes to ESU from New Jersey City University (NJCU) where he most recently served as the acting director of the division of professional and lifelong learning. In this role he developed new revenue streams for NJCU, aligned University training programs with the State of New Jersey’s economic development priorities and increased the number of NJCU’s strategic and innovative community and business partnerships. The division of professional and lifelong learning included NJCU’s Continuing Education unit, which Bajor previously oversaw along with graduate studies. In that role he supervised the administration of admission, registration, matriculation, scheduling, advisement and graduation/completion policies governing graduate and continuing education students.

Education Professor Leads Archeological Trip for Middle School Students

Four years ago, Doug Lare, Ed.D., knew he wanted to get his hands dirty. He came up with an idea to provide middle school students with a chance to participate in archeological digs. On April 30, months of planning paid off as students and professionals spent over six hours digging in the dirt. He started by working with a social studies teacher at the Allentown Harrison Middle School to get students signed up for the trip. While scouting for possible locations, Dr. Lare came across the Governor Wolf Historical Society. Spending time recruiting a team of faculty members and professional archeologists, Dr. Lare felt ready to take on the project for the third year. On April 30, months of planning paid off as students and professionals spent over six hours digging in the dirt.
