ESU Hosts PASSHE Interdisciplinary Association for Philosophy and Religious Studies (IAPRS) Conference, April 8-9

East Stroudsburg University is hosting the 29th annual Interdisciplinary Association for Philosophy and Religious Studies (IAPRS) Conference April 8-9. Presenters will include students and faculty members from ESU, as well as Edinboro, Kutztown, Millersville, and Slippery Rock Universities.

The two-day conference, which is held at a different Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education university each year, aims to provide undergraduate students the opportunity to present their papers for peer review in an academic conference, foster and develop critical thinking, and promote mentorship between faculty and students. The keynote speaker will be Gordon C.F. Bearn, Ph.D., a philosophy professor at Lehigh University.

Psychology Professor Presents Seminars in Costa Rica

Student Art Association at ESU Presents “Comic Thon,” April 16

Local artists, art enthusiasts and/or comic book lovers who want to test their creativity and push their artistic limits are invited to a 12-hour Comic Thon sponsored by East Stroudsburg University’s Student Art Association.

The day of extreme cartooning will give amateur and professional cartoonists of any age 12 hours to challenge themselves to try to write, draw, and letter an entire 12-page comic story (one page per hour). Participants are not required to meet this goal, nor are they required to stay for the entire session.

Four Members of ESU’s University/ Community Concert Band (UCCB) Participated in Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band Festival

Four East Stroudsburg University student members of the University/Community Concert Band (UCCB) participated in 69th annual Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band Festival held March 4-6 at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pa.

The students included Mirand Tripus, flute, a senior from Moscow, Pa. with majors in political science, philosophy, and English; Victoria Kraft, euphonium, a senior from Langhorne, Pa. majoring in middle level education with a concentration in mathematics and a minor in music; Matthew Helbers, trombone, a sophomore from East Stroudsburg, Pa., majoring in mathematics; and Jacqueline Hoffman, oboe, a freshman from Elizabethtown, Pa. with majors in nursing and in Spanish.

On Saturday, April 2, 90.3 WESS, East Stroudsburg University’s (ESU) college radio station will be hosting their fourth annual Spring Jam at the McGarry Communications Center.

Ending her college career as promotions director of WESS on a high note, Brittany Winfield, a senior majoring in communication studies from Newton, N.J., finds herself with mixed feelings about what will happen when it is all over. Yvonne Troiani Sweeney Lecture Series for Nursing Enrichment to be held at ESU April 7, Living with Dementia Selected as Topic

Yvonne Troiani Sweeney’78 always had passion for the well-being of her patients. She dedicated her life to her nursing career that spanned 30 years after earning her bachelor’s degree in nursing from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) and a graduate degree in nursing from Villanova.

Five years ago, all of that changed for Sweeney and her family who live in Mountaintop, Pa. Diagnosed with a form of early onset dementia. Support came in many ways from Sweeney’s family. Her sister Linda Niedbala ’83, with the help of her husband, Sam Niedbala ’82, started the Yvonne Troiani Sweeney Lecture Series for Nursing Enrichment at ESU, which kicked off in March 2014. This year, the lecture series will continue on Thursday, April 7 with a keynote address by Ann M. Kolanowski, Ph.D., RN, FGSA, FAAN, titled “Promoting Behavioral and Cognitive Health in People Living with Dementia.”

Art + Design Students Gain Professional Experience with New Mind Design

For Cameron Maher being a part of New Mind Design (NMD) is like riding a bike with the training wheels on it.

“It really let me get a feel for what a design job is in the real world.” he said.

NMD is an in-house design agency that works with businesses throughout Northeast Pennsylvania. It is made up of East Stroudsburg University art + design students and is housed in the Innovation Center. The faculty team started NMD as a pilot run by integrating the agency in the classroom during spring 2014. The official doors for the agency opened in fall of 2014.

Biochemistry Program Earns National Accreditation

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania Provost Joanne Z. Bruno, J.D., is pleased to announce that the university’s undergraduate Biological Chemistry programs have received provisional accreditation from the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB).
