ESU Athletic Logo to be Featured in Book of World’s Best Logos

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s new face of the warriors is to be featured among the world’s best logos when the 10th edition of the book, LogoLounge is released.  The forward-facing warrior logo that was launched in January 2017 and now represents all ESU athletic teams was among 40,000 logos that were submitted for consideration and only 2,500 made the cut. ESU’s new athletic logo, which shares the same shape and color palette as the University’s new institutional logo, is intended to develop a bold visual identity that is aligned with ESU’s mission, vision and strategic plan.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders of East Stroudsburg University is seeking participants for a research study on the effects impact of Rheumatic Disease and Inflammatory Arthritis have on hearing, cognition and language. Patients with Inflammatory Arthritis or Rheumatic Disease including but not limited to Psoriatic Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Scleroderma, Ankylosing Spondylitis, MCTD, Lyme’s Disease, Crohn’s Disease, Fibromyalgia, or Systemic Lupus Erythematosus are invited to participate.

ESU’s Office of Academic Affairs Announces Administrative Appointments

Joanne Z. Bruno, J.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, announced the appointments of Robert E. Smith, Ed.D., Denise Seigart, Ph.D., and Jeffrey A. Weber, Ph.D. to administrative roles effective August, 2017. These appointments replace roles previously held within the division that have been vacated.

“These candidates were selected because of the outstanding work they accomplished in their respective fields,” said Provost Bruno about the appointments. “Each of these searches turned out some fine candidates, but in my conversations with each of the new hires, I got a sense that these individuals are most attuned to the needs of our institution and genuinely understand the expectations placed upon them. I am confident that Drs. Smith, Seigart and Weber will be tremendous assets to the division of academic affairs, and the ESU community.”

State System’s Board of Governors Approves 3.5 Percent Tuition Increase for 2017-18

The Board of Governors of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education today approved a 3.5 percent increase in tuition for the 2017-18 academic year.

The $127-per-semester increase sets the base tuition rate for most full-time Pennsylvania residents—who comprise about 90 percent of all State System university students—at $3,746 per term, or $7,492 for the full year. Even with the increase, the State System universities will remain the lowest-cost option among all four-year colleges and universities in the state.

ESU Residence Life Top Fundraiser in Greater Poconos Relay for Life

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Office of Residence life was the top fundraising team in this year’s Greater Pocono 24-hour “Relay for Life,” which was hosted at ESU’s Eiler-Martin Stadium Saturday, June 17 – Sunday, June 18.

ESU’s Office of Residence Life has had a staff team since the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life initiative began in Monroe County over 25 years ago. This year the team brought in $23,246. Bob Moses, director of residence life & housing, was the top fundraiser in the relay with $10,025 in donations. Kelly Weaber, residence director of Hawthorn Suites, was the second highest bringing in a total of $4,709.

Two East Stroudsburg University Students Attend State System Honors Trip to Belize

Two East Stroudsburg University students participated in the annual Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education trip abroad exclusively for honors students.

Ashley Collins, a sophomore from Newton, N.J. majoring in early childhood education, and Abigail Schauf, a junior from Pittsburgh, Pa. majoring in psychology, joined students from 12 universities, including ESU, on the trip.

ESU Student-Athletes Achieve Record 3.22 GPA; Land 221 on 2016-17 PSAC Scholar-Athlete List

Student-athletes finished the 2016-17 academic year with a 3.22 cumulative grade-point average, the highest in department history.

In addition, the Warriors placed 176 student-athletes on the spring 2017 Dean’s List for compiling at least a 3.5 GPA during the spring semester.

East Stroudsburg University Partners with Lehigh Valley Hospital–Pocono to Provide Health Services to Students

East Stroudsburg University (ESU) of Pennsylvania proudly announces its intent to enter into an agreement with Lehigh Valley Hospital–Pocono (LVH–Pocono) to provide basic ambulatory health services to its students, effective July 1, 2017.

“At ESU, we are constantly looking for ways to improve our services to students. Changing the location of where we provide health services and adding improved accessibility with additional locations and hours are just a few examples of meeting the needs of students and putting them first in all we do,” said Doreen M. Tobin, D.Ed., vice president of student affairs at ESU.  “Following a competitive solicitation of interested health care providers, an arrangement with LVH–Pocono offered a combination of variety of health care services, convenience, affordability and access that will benefit ESU students.”

ESU ROTC Graduate Commissioned as Second Lieutenant

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania graduate Margaret Kuchinski was among nine ROTC graduates from area universities to be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. A ceremony was held at The University of Scranton in May. Kuchinski, a native of Moosic, Pa. graduated from ESU in May with a bachelor of science in criminal justice.

Two ESU Theatre Majors Gain Professional Experience Working With Pocono Mountains Theater Company

After spending the 2016-2017 academic year being immersed in their craft, what do two East Stroudsburg University theatre majors do during their summer vacation? The answer, of course, is more theatre.

John Lauri, a senior from Long Pond, Pa. with a concentration in directing, and Joshua Weidenbaum, a sophomore from Saylorsburg, Pa. with a concentration in musical theatre, are interning with the Pocono Mountains Theater Company (PMTC).
