ESU’s Sigma Xi Hosts 42nd Annual Science Honors Banquet

The East Stroudsburg University Chapter of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society, hosted its 42nd annual science honors banquet on April 28 at the Stroudsmoor Country Inn in Stroudsburg, Pa. At the banquet, Sigma Xi honored students from eight departments within the College of Arts and Sciences.

Samantha Miller, a junior majoring in chemistry from Springfield, Pa. and Phillip Reinhardt, a senior majoring in chemistry from East Stroudsburg, Pa. received Sigma Xi associate membership. The recipients of the faculty memorial awards were Andrew Bischer, a graduate student studying biology from Stroudsburg, Pa., and Myla Keiling, a senior majoring in biology from Canadensis, Pa.

SPECIAL MEETING – Monroe Gigabit Project RFP Summary Results Will be Shared and Discussed

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) will be the location for the special meeting of the Monroe Gigabit Project to review RFP results on Friday, May 12 at 8 a.m. in Room 336 of ESU’s Innovation Center located at 562 Independence Road in East Stroudsburg. In addition to information about the RFP, local expert Michael A. Kolba, Jr., of Sensible Technology Solutions, LLC will speak about “Minding Your Business,” Cyber Security for Small Businesses, Governments, and Non-Profits as Part II of the Cyber Security Update. Kolba will provide helpful strategies and resources to help determine weaknesses in smaller organization cyber security management. Mr. Kolba has more than twenty years’ experience with improving operational efficiency, data security, and system performance enhancement.

ESU Graduate Student Wins $110,000 Business Plan Competition

Blaise Delfino’14 M’16, an East Stroudsburg University master’s degree candidate from Bethlehem, Pa., earned first place in the collegiate sector of the TecBRIDGE Business Plan Competition on April 27 at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. Other finalist in the competition represented King’s College, Marywood University and Wilkes University.

Delfino’s company, Fader Plugs LLC, created first of its kind, patent-pending adjustable earplugs. The design of the earplugs allows the wearer to adjust noise levels without taking the plug out of the ear. Delfino, also a musician, believes the product will resonate with concert goers and those in the music industry. The company is located in the ESU Innovation Center – Business Accelerator.

University Service Award Winner Announced at ESU Commencement

On her first day at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, graduating senior Alyssa Simeone made it her mission to leave a legacy of positive change on campus.

“I came to ESU as an athlete with the goal of being inducted in the National Society of Leadership and Success,” Simone said. Being a soccer player with a full load of credits and an ambitious goal could be enough for some students, but for Simone it was just the beginning.

ESU Observatory Welcomes All to View Jupiter and the Moon

The Physics Department at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania will hold an open house at the university observatory to view the waxing gibbous moon and the planet Jupiter and its moons on Saturday, May 6 from 9 to 10 p.m. weather permitting. The observatory is located on the roof of the Warren E. ’55 and Sandra Hoeffner Science and Technology Center on Normal Street.
