Governor Wolf Proposes Third Straight Year of Increased Funding for State System
Gov. Tom Wolf unveiled his proposed 2017-18 Commonwealth budget today, recommending a third straight year of increased funding for Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education.
The governor’s proposal would provide the State System about $453.1 million next year to help fund the operations of the 14 state-owned universities, an increase of almost $9 million from the current year’s funding level.

English Major Attends The Harrisburg Internship Semester (THIS)
Halle Frisco of Mechanicsburg is working in the state historic preservation office of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission as part of a 15-week internship sponsored by Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education.
Frisco is a junior English major with a minor in communications and a concentration in professional and media writing at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. She is one of 11 students participating in The Harrisburg Internship Semester (THIS) program, which provides students the opportunity to work in all areas of state government while earning a full semester’s worth of credits. THIS invites students from each of the 14 State System universities to participate.

New Season of ‘Infinite Opportunities’ Premiers January 29th on PCN
East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania will be featured on “Infinite Opportunities,” a weekly, half-hour, public affairs program featuring Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education universities. The show will engage viewers in roundtable discussions with faculty, staff, students and alumni during its third season, which will premiere at 9:30 a.m., Sunday, on the Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN).

Schisler Museum and McMunn Planetarium Sets Spring Hours
The Schisler Museum of Wildlife & Natural History and McMunn Planetarium at East Stroudsburg University has set its spring semester hours. The facility is open to the public on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The facility is reserved for pre-registered group visits on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

ESU Receives National Endowment for the Humanities Grant
East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) has received $5,900 from the inaugural round of Humanities Access grants awarded through the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The grant will be used for the preservation of the special collections in ESU’s Kemp Library. Kelly Smith, archives and special collections librarian, proposed the project and will be its project director overseeing its implementation. The NEH is a competitive federal agency from which to secure grants, and this is the first NEH award received by ESU.

ESU Begins New Semester with New Brand Identity
East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania President Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D., revealed a new brand identity – including two new logos ‑ as part of a three-year marketing and branding initiative for the University during a reception on Tuesday, January 17.
Plans for a “new” ESU began back in September 2015 when the University hired Joe Bosack and Co. to compile research, test markets and develop a marketing plan and brand platform that are intended to raise awareness about the institution as well as support admission and enrollment initiatives.

Madelon Powers Gallery to Present X-Scapes – Deconstructing the Urban and Pastoral Landscapes
Susan Molina Washington and Stephen Washington, two artists who explore abstract expressionism and bring their own process and sensibilities to the theme of landscapes, will be featured in the exhibit, X-Scapes – Deconstructing the Urban and Pastoral Landscapes, February 1 to March 10 at East Stroudsburg University’s Madelon Powers Gallery.
Hours for the gallery, located in the university’s Fine & Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday.

Fall 2016 Dean’s List Announced
A total of 1,528 students have been named to the Dean’s List at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) for the Fall 2016 semester of the 2016-2017 academic year, according to Joanne Bruno, J.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs. Students eligible for the Dean’s List are those who have attained a 3.50 quality point average or better and are enrolled full-time. The letter grade “B” earns 3 quality points per credit, and the grade “A” earns 4 quality points per credit.

ESU to Recognize Award Winners at 20th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast
East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania selected the winners for the 2017 Boddie Scholarship, Martin Luther King Jr. awards, and the Julianna V. Bolt Art Contest. The winners will be recognized at the 20th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Breakfast, which will be held on January 16 in the Mattioli Recreation Center on ESU’s campus from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
