ESU Foundation Celebrates 26th Annual Golf Classic to Benefit Prince Hall Scholarship Fund

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, the ESU Foundation and the Prince Hall School of Philadelphia, Pa., are teaming up to host the 26th Annual Educational Scholarship Golf Classic to benefit the Prince Hall Endowed Scholarship Fund on August 1, 2016, at Mount Airy Casino Resort in Mount Pocono, Pa.

Pennsylvania State Rep. Dwight Evans, 203rd District of Philadelphia, is the honorary chair and Sharon Patton-Thaxton, former principal of the Prince Hall School, is the event’s honorary co-chair.

Burgy, ESUs Number One Fan Retires After Eight Years of Service

After eight years of service to East Stroudsburg University as the Number One Fan of Warrior Athletics, Burgy has announced his official retirement effective Friday, June 10.

Burgy’s arrival was celebrated by the ESU campus community during Homecoming in October, 2008, and his mission was to: continue the rich traditions of the university through good will among all, support community service for others, and inspire a winning season year after year.

Baseball, Softball Teams Announce Partnership With Stroudsburg Little League And Stroud Township Board of Supervisors To Seek Support To Enhance Facilities

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) Department of Athletics, the ESU Foundation, the Stroudsburg Little League (SLL) Board of Directors and the Stroud Township Board of Supervisors announced today a new partnership and intentions to raise funds and community support in order to enhance and utilize the ESSA & Hughes Field Complex at Creekview Park, 335 Powerhouse Lane, Stroudsburg.

“This is such a great opportunity for Stroudsburg Little League,” said Board of Directors President Jerry Robertson. “I’ve been involved in Stroudsburg Little League for more than 24 years and I have to say we feel very fortunate that our local university wants to partner with us to create a facility that is not only state-of-the-art, but a wellspring of mentorship for the young, influential kids involved in our program. Little League participants will be able to see for themselves that there’s a place for teamwork and comradery throughout their youth and into adulthood.”

Schisler Museum and McMunn Planetarium Sets Summer Hours

The Schisler Museum of Wildlife & Natural History and McMunn Planetarium at East Stroudsburg University has set its summer hours. Both facilities are open Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and from June 7 through August 20, they will also be open Tuesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Both facilities are open for a single admission price.

Athletic Training Students take First Place at Pennsylvania Athletic Training Society Symposium

Three East Stroudsburg University students attended the 2016 Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium on June 4, and left with first place trophies. Nicole Koniarz, a senior from Boonton, N.J., presented her case study on an NCAA Division II swimmer that competes while suffering from Cystic Fibrosis, and earned the first place spot in the research presentation competition. Mariah Morrsion, a senior from Scranton, Pa., and Matthew Hugg, a junior from Burlington, N.J., joined Koniarz in dominating the 10th Annual PATS Quiz Bowl, which tests teams of three on a wide variety of academic subjects, and claimed first place out of 10 Athletic Training Programs from across the state.

Psychology Department Hosts 39th Biannual Research Forum

The psychology department at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania hosted its 39th Biannual Research Forum on April 26 in the Niedbala Auditorium of the Hoeffner Science and Technology Center. The Research Forum was established almost 20 years ago by Sussie Eshun, Ph.D., professor of psychology, and Richard Wesp, Ph.D., distinguished professor of psychology, as a venue to showcase the outstanding student research being done in the psychology department. It has steadily grown and now includes numerous research and internship posters, student research presentations, student award presentations, and honor society inductions.

English Professor Publishes Novel

A trip to the Houston Zoo over 14 years ago led Bill Broun to publish his first novel. “Night of the Animals,” which will be on sale beginning July 5, follows a homeless man named Cuthbert Handley who, over the course of the night, works to release the animals of the London Zoo.

“The first spark for a tale about a mentally ill old man’s interaction with zoo animals came from a very close friendship with a schizophrenic man whom I once spotted ‘talking’ to a troop of howler monkeys during our visit to the Houston Zoo,” Broun said.
