Two East Stroudsburg University art+design majors presented their work at the National Art Education Association Convention in New York City on March 5. James Nelson Holloway, a junior from Damascus, Pa. and Daniel Zimmerman, a junior from West Brookfield, Mass., were joined by Xue Dong, assistant professor of art+design, to present “Incorporate Engineering Mindset into Art and Design Education.” The National Art Education Association was founded in 1947 and is the leading professional membership organization exclusively for visual arts, design, and media arts education professionals.
During the presentation, the students and their professor shared their recent findings from two recent projects. “We presented achievements from a project on Generative Drone Design and another on Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality Haptics,” Dong said. “We hope we inspired the art+design educators and gave them a new interdisciplinary perspective.”
These two projects were sponsored by ESU Out of the Box Grant and the 2021 Faculty Professional Development Council Grant. The students’ travel expenses were supported by the Josephine Louise Madara Undergraduate Student Research Endowment.
