ESU Celebrates Women’s History Month

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania is celebrating Women’s History Month with a series of events, beginning on March 16. This year’s theme will focus on honoring women in the past, present and future. Highlights of Women’s History Month include looking into 20-time Grammy award winner Beyoncé stance on women’s empowerment and a discussion about hip-hop’s influence on today’s generation specific to world-renowned hip-hop artist Drake. The activities listed below are open to the public at no cost and the schedule is subject to change. Monday, March 16

Honest Conversations: Exercising Their Rights
7 p.m. – Shawnee Lounge

Join us to discuss women’s role in modern day activism. This program will be a group discussion about the role women have played in activism in the past, present, and in the future.

Wednesday, March 18

Beyoncé: The Feminist
7 p.m. – University Center Room 205

This program will take an in depth look into Beyoncé’s stance on women’s empowerment and how she essentially reclaimed the “F” word. There will also be a group discussion about the role of the women’s rights movement and the work that has been done in the past and the obstacles and opportunities we face moving forward.

Monday, March 23

Drake: Too Soft For Men
7 p.m., University Center Room 205

This program will be a group discussion about hip hop’s influence on today’s generation and essentially the meaning of masculinity. Also, we will discuss what happens when a male does not seem to fit the ideal image or embody the characteristics of a “manly man.”

Tuesday, March 24

Been There, Done That. Keeping it Real.
7- 9 p.m., Stroud 117

Experienced women come together for a panel discussion with The Greater Section, National Council of Negro Women, Inc.

Thursday, March 26

The Line
2-3:45 p.m., Beers Lecture Hall

This personal documentary explores sexual boundaries and consent. It is a cautionary story that is both provocative and engaging.
