ESU Hospitality, Recreation, and Tourism Management Department Hosts Alumni Panel Discussion

On December 1, East Stroudsburg University’s hospitality, recreation, and tourism management (HRTM) department welcomed alumni back to campus for a special industry panel discussion and networking event. The event allowed current students to hear from industry professionals in a range of sectors in the hospitality and recreation industry.

Stanley Li-Ming Chiang, Ed.D., professor of hospitality, recreation and tourism management and department chair and Chris Barrett, CEO, Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau, welcomed students and guests. Bill Colavito. general manager of Great Wolf Lodge’s Pocono Mountains location, was the keynote speaker and shared his experience in the hospitality industry and talked about the abundant professional opportunities in the region.

A panel of HRTM alumni including Danica Boyd ’97, head of global local and inside sales, Sonder; Susie Chamberlain ’21, specialty camp director, Camp Speers YMCA; Maureen Furlong ’18, human resources coordinator, Aramark; Lucy Gussman ’21, sales manager, Kalahari Resorts & Conventions; Taylor Olszyk ’17, marketing manager, Mountain View Vineyard; Nicole Sohns ’10, director of revenue management, Intermountain Management; and Carly Zumar ’22, social media & content marketing strategist, National Basketball Association, discussed navigating life after college, challenges they’ve faced, changes in the workforce and gave advice and resources to the current students.

Following the panel discussion, students and alumni networked at an open reception. Students had the chance to engage one-on-one with industry professionals, learn about potential career opportunities and expand their networks.

The HRTM alumni and industry professional networking event was sponsored by the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau and Great Wolf Lodge.
