EAST STROUDSBURG – For the first time in program history, the East Stroudsburg University field hockey captured back-to-back PSAC titles as the Warriors knocked off Shippensburg, 2-1, in a double overtime instant classic on Sunday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
PSAC Athlete of the Year
Jady van Gils scored the golden goal with 2:04 remaining off an initial shot from senior
Hanna Lewis that was redirected right to her stick by graduate student
Nicole Krozser.
van Gils was also honored as the PSAC Field Hockey Championship Most Valuable Player.
"This team has a never say die attitude," said 39th-year head coach
Sandy Miller. "They played together as a group, and they found a way to win, and good teams do that…I am very proud of our efforts. Today's atmosphere was awesome…the fans and the support we got was just outstanding."
It marked the fourth PSAC title in program history for ESU as the Warriors captured the conference championship in 2015, 2019 and 2022. Additionally, the PSAC Championship marks ESU's first conference title of the 2023-24 athletic year.
Dating back to the 2022 season, the Warriors (17-2) are now 6-1 in overtime games.
