RENTON, WA. – NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! The top-ranked East Stroudsburg University field hockey team cemented themselves in history as senior
Nicole Krozser's goal with 36 seconds remaining lifted the Warriors past No. 2 Shippensburg, 1-0, to capture their second NCAA DII National Championship in program history on Saturday afternoon at Renton Memorial Stadium in Renton, Washington.
The Warriors concluded the season winning their final seven games and setting the school record for wins by finishing 20-2 to earn the title. Shippensburg, who was the defending national champion, wrapped up the season 16-4.
With the back and forth game looking to be headed to overtime, sophomore
Jady van Gils carried the ball up the right side of the Shippensburg defensive zone before sending a pass across to Krozser, who redirected it into the back left corner of the cage with 36 seconds remaining.
Notables
- Krozser tallied her 10th goal of the season as well as her fourth game-winner. The senior finished tied with fellow classmates Hanna Lewis and Madison Kline for the team lead
- van Gils team-high 10th assist of the year is tied for the ninth most in a single season
- Junior goalkeeper Amy Supey turned in another big time performance, recording two saves and her seventh solo shutout, which is tied for the second most in a single season. The Lehman, Pa. native finished as the NCAA Statistical Champion in goals against average (0.41) and save percentage (0.873)
- Today's game marked the first time that the Raiders were shutout since Sept. 18, 2019
- The Warriors had the advantage in shots (11-4), shots on goal (5-2) and penalty corners (7-2)
- ESU improves to 8-8 all-time in the Division II Tournament and moves to 1-5 against the Raiders after dropping the previous five meetings. The Warriors had dropped five of their previous six meetings against Shippensburg and revenge their 2018 loss to the Raiders in the title game
- ESU secures its ninth national championship as an athletic department and first since the Warriors defeated Merrimack, 1-0, on Nov. 22, 2015. Other Warrior teams earning national titles include men's soccer (NAIA, 1962), Archery (United State Intercollegiate - Mixed - 1975, Men - 1976, 1977) and men's gymnastics (NCAA Division II, 1983, 1984).
- Head coach Sandy Miller concluded her 38th season by collecting her 479th career victory today, now needing nine more to move into third all-time in Division II, as well as her second national title

59:24 | Cutting through the left side of the Raiders' defense, van Gils delivered a pass across the middle of the shooting circle, where it found the stick of Krozser, who ultimately redirected a shot that put the Warriors in front 1-0 with the clock winding down
