ESU Brings Record Crowd at Annual Economic Summit

In collaboration with East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU), business representatives of Monroe County met at ESU’s Mattioli Recreation Center for the fifth annual Economic Outlook Summit on September 8, 2017. This year’s event brought the largest crowd in the event’s history, 290 people. The keynote address was given by Senator Mario Scavello, 40th District, and Senator John Blake, 22nd District, and outlined critical issues facing Monroe County.

ESU Observatory Welcomes All to View Saturn and Its Moons

The Physics Department and the Society of Physics students at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania will hold an open house at the university observatory to view the planet Saturn and its moons on Friday, September 8 from 8-9 p.m., weather permitting. The observatory is located on the roof of the Warren E. ’55 and Sandra Hoeffner Science and Technology Center on Normal Street.

ESU Honors Two Faculty as Distinguished Professors

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania presented its annual Distinguished Professor Awards to Gregory B. Dwyer, Ph.D., FACSM, professor of exercise science, and Patricia Smeaton, Ed.D., professor emerita of professional and secondary education, during an all-university meeting on Tuesday, September 5, in the Abeloff Center for the Performing Arts.

Fall 2017 Provost’s Colloquium Series Returns With Engaging New Presentations

The East Stroudsburg University Provost’s Colloquium Series will continue this fall. The new semester of lectures begins with a presentation by Nancy VanArsdale, Ph.D., professor of English, Tim Connolly, Ph.D., professor of philosophy, and Annie Mendoza, Ph.D., associate professor of modern languages. The multi-departmental talk will discuss travel experiences abroad in China and Cuba that provided learning experiences in May 2017.

ESU Partners with Community for 5th Annual Economic Outlook Summit

The fifth annual East Stroudsburg University Economic Outlook Summit is being held on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Mattioli Recreation Center on the ESU campus. The theme for the 2017 Economic Summit is Monroe 2030 – Action Now!

The Economic Outlook Summit features a variety of speakers including regional business owners, entrepreneurs, national experts and elected officials in a forum that engages the audience in discussion and problem-solving. At the 2017 Summit, keynote addresses from Senator Mario Scavello, 40th District, and Senator John Blake, 22nd District, outline the top three critical issues facing Monroe County today.

ESU Welcomes New Students to Campus

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania welcomed 1,200 freshmen and transfer students to campus today, Friday, August 25, 2017. Student, faculty, staff and alumni volunteers were part of a “Welcome To Campus” initiative intended to help students and their families move in to their residence halls and begin preparations for classes that will begin on Monday, August 28. Among the volunteers was President of ESU, Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D.

By Sunday evening, approximately 3,000 students will be moved in to ESU, their home away from home, for the academic year.

Madelon Powers Gallery to Present The Sinking of the General Slocum

East Stroudsburg University’s Madelon Powers Gallery will present The Sinking of the General Slocum, an exhibit of paintings by Cindy Vojnovic, from September 5-29.

A nearly forgotten New York City maritime disaster—the 1904 burning and sinking of the steamboat P.S. General Slocum with a loss of 1,021 of the 1,342 people on board—sparked an artistic journey for regional artist Cindy Vojnovic.
