National Center for Fathering CEO Selected to be Keynote Speaker at 2017 MLK Celebration Breakfast

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania selected Carey Casey, chief executive officer of the National Center for Fathering (NCF), to be the keynote speaker for the 2017 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Breakfast. The 20th annual celebration honoring Dr. King is scheduled for Monday, January 16, 2017, at 8 a.m. in the Mattioli Recreation Center on ESU’s campus. The theme of this year’s breakfast is “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.”

Career Website Names East Stroudsburg No. 1 Place to be a Teacher

A career website has named East Stroudsburg as the top place in the nation to be a teacher just as a shortage of educators is expected to create hot demand for new teachers in the region.

The web site Zippia, which provides career information for a wide array of professions, ranked the East Stroudsburg area as the No. 1 community for teachers. Zippia gets no argument from Terry Barry Ed.D., dean of the College of Education at East Stroudsburg University.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders of East Stroudsburg University is seeking participants for a research study on the effects Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus have on hearing, cognition and language. The research will help further understand the diseases and explore potential therapy and treatment techniques.

Monroe County Broadband Speakers Announced

On Tuesday, December 13, 2016, East Stroudsburg University, Pocono Mountains Economic Development Corporation, the Monroe 2030 Action Team, and the ESU Center for Research and Economic Development will hold a Broadband Rally in the ESU Innovation Center, Room 336 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. The purpose of the rally is to inform citizens, businesses and constituents of Monroe County of the efforts underway to provide high speed broadband to the county at an affordable cost.

Communication Students Travel to Study Foreign Media

The students in East Stroudsburg University’s Comparative Media class (CMST 410) traveled to Montreal to study Canadian media. The students took a walking tour of Old Montreal and a guided tour of the Canadian Broadcasting System, where they visited the set of popular shows on the network. Robert McKenzie, Ph.D., distinguished professor and chair of communication, also presented two workshops on Canadian media while escorting his students on the November 17 -20 field trip.

East Stroudsburg University Political Science Students Visit Washington, D.C.

On Wednesday, November 16, Kimberly S. Adams, Ph.D., professor of political science, accompanied students from East Stroudsburg University’s political science club to Washington, D.C. Joining them on the trip were students from Dr. Adams’ graduate and undergraduate political communication classes. The trip served two purposes. It provided students the opportunity to interactively explore how digital and social media shaped the 2016 presidential election by visiting the Newseum’s exhibit “CNN Politics Campaign 2016: Like, Share, Elect.” They also visited the United States Capitol where they had guided tours of the Rotunda and Statuary Hall.

In instances of severe weather, East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) reminds students, faculty and staff to tune in to the radio and television stations and websites listed below, or visit the ESU website for updated announcements regarding possible class cancelations, delays and/or university closings.

In most instances, University decisions about delays, cancelations or closings will be made by 6 a.m. concerning morning classes, 11 a.m. for afternoon classes and 2:30 p.m. for evening classes.
