Two ESU Theatre Majors Gain Professional Experience Working With Pocono Mountains Theater Company
After spending the 2016-2017 academic year being immersed in their craft, what do two East Stroudsburg University theatre majors do during their summer vacation? The answer, of course, is more theatre.
John Lauri, a senior from Long Pond, Pa. with a concentration in directing, and Joshua Weidenbaum, a sophomore from Saylorsburg, Pa. with a concentration in musical theatre, are interning with the Pocono Mountains Theater Company (PMTC).

“The Glass Castle” Author Set to Visit ESU as part of One Book, One Campus Program
East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s One Book, One Campus committee announced that “The Glass Castle” will be the selection for the 2017-18 common reading program, One Book, One Campus. The program, intended to promote deep reading, critical thinking and unity among members of the campus and local communities, is in its fifth year. Book discussions around themes of “The Glass Castle” will take place on campus throughout the fall 2017 semester and are open to the general public. ESU’s One Book, One Campus program will wrap up on Thursday, November 2 with a presentation by author, Jeannette Walls on campus.

Two ESU Students Attend National Education for Women’s Leadership Conference
Two East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania students were selected to attend a program which seeks to help prepare and empower young women to be future leaders in the political process. The students attended the National Education for Women’s (NEW) Leadership Pennsylvania™ institute at the Pennsylvania Center for Women and Politics at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pa. from June 6 – 9. The NEW program is a six-day, concentrated curriculum for female students attending colleges and universities throughout Pennsylvania. Participants learned about networking, the need for women’s leadership in the political process and participated in skills-building workshops.

Awards Presented at ESU’s Psychology Department’s Biannual Research Forum
The psychology department at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania celebrated the 20th anniversary of its Biannual Research Forum on April 25, 2017 in the Niedbala Auditorium of the Hoeffner Science and Technology Center.
The student presenter for the spring 2017 Research Forum was Michelle Coughlin, from Branchville, N.J., who recently earned her Bachelor of Science in psychology. Coughlin presented research that she conducted with Irina Khusid, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology, titled, “The Effects of Social Media on the Perception of Infidelity in College Students.”

Schisler Museum and McMunn Planetarium Sets Summer Hours
The Schisler Museum of Wildlife & Natural History and McMunn Planetarium at East Stroudsburg University has set its summer hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m., June 1–August 19, 2017. A single entrance fee provides admission to both facilities.
ESU’s Warren E. ’55 and Sandra Hoeffner Science and Technology Center houses a state-of-the-art planetarium as well as a world-class museum with more than 130 taxidermy exhibits, hands-on exploration, and insects from around the globe.

ESU Rises in ETC Rankings for Economic Value with Emphasis Placed on Workforce Preparedness of Graduates
East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania ranks in the top 15 percent (number 171) of nearly 1,200 accredited four-year colleges according to Educate to Career (ETC). ETC’s methodology utilizes data and analytics to rank schools by the economic value created for their students. “The ETC College Rankings Index is unique as it places major emphasis on the workforce preparedness and the improvement in earnings and employability that grads derive from attending a particular college” said ESU President Marcia G. ESU’s Upward Bound Sends Two High School Students to Leadership Congress
East Stroudsburg University’s Upward Bound program has chosen Salma Mustafa and Divine Kennedy to attend the National Student Leadership Congress in Washington, D.C. June 10 – 15. Mustafa and Kennedy are juniors at East Stroudsburg High School – North. The National Student Leadership Congress is an intensive, six-day residential program focusing on promoting leadership skills and personal development while simulating what it would be like to live and learn on a college campus.
