Political Science Professor Elected as Nazareth Area School Director

ESU Associate Professor of Political Science Adam McGlynn, Ph.D., will be enhancing his classrooms with real world experience after being elected Nazareth Area School Director. After months of campaigning, McGlynn was notified that he will be the representing voice of the Lower and Eastern District of Upper Nazareth Township.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for me to serve my community,” said McGlynn. Writing his dissertation and several articles on education policy reinforced for him the importance of education, which has always been a high priority.

Twelve Students Named Outstanding Leaders in National Publication

Twelve students from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) have been selected as national outstanding leaders and will be featured in the 2015 publication, Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. For the past 81 years, this publication has honored outstanding campus leaders for their scholastic, leadership and community achievements.

Sigma Phi Omega Breaks Records with Donations for Pet Food Drive

Sigma Phi Omega, the gerontology honor society at East Stroudsburg University, broke records with their annual pet food drive.

All proceeds were donated to the pets of Meals on Wheels clients.

They ended the food drive by collecting 68 cans of dog food and 270 cans of cat food.

In 1975 David Good’s father, Kenneth, travelled to the Amazon jungle as a graduate student to study the isolated Yanomami tribe—a people then virtually untouched by western civilization. Eventually he became a familiar and trusted presence within the community. So much so, that the village leader declared Kenneth “one of them” and insisted he take a wife.

ESU Presents Holiday Festival, December 4

East Stroudsburg University’s Mu Epsilon chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, the honorary band fraternity, invites the campus and community to a holiday festival on Friday, December 4 at 8 p.m. outside Abeloff Center for the Performing Arts on ESU’s College Circle.

Anyone who plays a musical instrument is invited to join the festival ensemble.  Registration for musicians will be held from 6-7 p.m. in the Abeloff Center, followed by a one-hour rehearsal.  There is a $5 registration fee for musicians, which includes a surprise gift.

Theatre Department Presents Winter Band Concert on December 6

The University / Community Concert Band at East Stroudsburg University will present a concert featuring an eclectic musical mix on Sunday, December 6 at 7 p.m. in Cecilia S. Cohen Recital Hall of ESU’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg.

Featured pieces include: Handel’s Arrival of the Queen of Sheba; John Williams: Symphonic Sound Tracks; A Christmas Fantasia; and works by contemporary American composers Robert Sheldon and Rossano Galante.  Lance Rauh, temporary instructor in the theatre department, is director of the concert band.

The concert, sponsored by the department of theatre, is open to the public at no cost.

ESU Hosts Meet the Author and Book Signing, November 30

When Fernando Alcántar’s immigrated to the United States at 18 years old, he converted to Protestant Christianity and looked to his faith for comfort. While attending a Christian University in Los Angeles for his undergraduate and graduate studies, Alcántar worked to oversee hundreds of ministries, churches, and missionaries, and eventually became a director of ministries to young people for the California-Hawaii region of the United Methodist Church.
