Sewell-Allen Named Dean of Student Life At East Stroudsburg University
Doreen Tobin, D.Ed., vice president of student affairs at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU), announced the appointment of Cornelia Sewell-Allen as the Dean of Student Life effective Monday, October 17, 2016. This position replaces the previous departmental position of assistant vice president for student affairs, which was vacated in September 2016.
“I was pleased when I learned that Cornelia submitted her application for the Dean of Students position, and was even more thrilled when she was recommended for the position by the search committee,” said Dr. Tobin. “Cornelia is highly regarded by students, faculty and staff alike. Her experience in Student Affairs, proven ability as an effective advocate for students, and collaborative working style make her the perfect match for the position. Cornelia will serve the division of student affairs and university well in her new role as the Dean of Student Life.”

ESU Residence Halls Invite Children to Trick or Treat through Residence Halls
The Office of Residence Life and Housing at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania invites community members to Trick or Treat through residence halls on Wednesday, October 26 at 5 p.m. The event, sponsored by ESU’s Residence Hall Association (RHA), is open to all area children, kindergarten through fifth grade. There is no cost to participate. Children are asked to wear their costumes and bring a trick-or-treat bag.

State System Ready for Pivotal Weekend Bargaining Sessions with Faculty Union; Updates Student FAQs
Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education will continue negotiations with APSCUF as bargaining sessions resume tomorrow and are expected to run through the weekend. The System has updated its negotiations website with an expanded list of frequently asked questions received from students over the past week.
“We want our students, their parents and the public to have as much information as possible about these negotiations and the potential strike that has been announced by the faculty union,” said State System spokesman Kenn Marshall. “We are eager to return to the bargaining table to continue working with the faculty union to finalize an agreement. We have informed APSCUF that we are ready to stay at the table to make it happen. We must remain at the table until we reach a deal. Our students deserve nothing less.”

Board of Governors Approves Major Policy Revisions to Ease Student Transfers, Enhance Significance and Relevance of General Education Requirements

LiveSafe Mobile App Now Available at East Stroudsburg University
In an effort to increase safety on campus, East Stroudsburg University will debut its latest safety feature during a press conference on Thursday, October 13 at 1 p.m. in the University Center. While campus is buzzing with Homecoming festivities this week, ESU campus police will introduce LiveSafe.
LiveSafe is a mobile application designed to help make college campuses a safer place by preventing crime and enabling better incident response. The LiveSafe technology includes an app for smartphone users that is connected to a cloud-based dashboard. This dashboard is monitored by officials within the ESU Police Department.

ESU Wins $4 million National Science Foundation Grant for Scholarships and Research
In the largest single grant ever awarded to East Stroudsburg University, the National Science Foundation (NSF) is giving $4 million to help transfer students complete their education at ESU in the fields of science, technology and math.
The five-year grant for the project — dubbed Clear Path — provides scholarships for about 120 students who start their education at community colleges and transfer to ESU for bachelor’s degrees in such fields as biochemistry, physics, computer science and mathematics.

“Laughing Wild”, a comedy by Tony-Award winning playwright Christopher Durang, has been selected to be the second in a series of staged readings being presented through a partnership between the Pocono Mountains’ Theater Company and East Stroudsburg University’s Department of Theatre.
The comedy will be presented Saturday, October 22 at 7 p.m. in Smith-McFarland Theatre of ESU’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg, Pa.
