ESU Greeks Launch Project Turkey
Project Turkey is underway on the campus of East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. The service initiative launched in 2015 with ESU’s Greek organizations and Linda Van Meter, Ph.D., director of counseling and psychological services. Last year Project Turkey exceeded their goal and raised $8,200 to provide Thanksgiving turkeys to families in need in Monroe County. On the heels of last year’s successful fundraising campaign, sororities and fraternities once again selected Project Turkey as their philanthropic initiative.

Math and Art Students Construct Calculating Art on Campus
ESU math and art students constructed a unique project called “Calculating Art” on campus today. Four circles, each 20 to 30 feet in diameter, were installed in front of the Hoeffner Science and Technology Center and behind Koehler Fieldhouse. The students used mathematical calculations to determine the length of each piece of tape and location of the stakes to create patterns and shapes within the circles.

ESU’s Dance Company to Present Fall Performance
The University Dance Company at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania will present its fall performance at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 18 and 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 19. There will be an open dress rehearsal at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 17. Each show will be at the Abeloff Center for the Performing Arts. Saturday’s performance features children from our Community Dance Program.

Art + Geometry = Colorful 3D Math Sculptures
Art and geometry will intersect in a huge, colorful way at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania Wednesday, November 9 as students create giant string art circles with geometric shapes using colorful surveyor’s tape and wooden stakes at two outdoor locations on campus.
In a project called “Calculating Art,” ESU math and art students will install four circles, each 20 to 30 feet in diameter, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday in front of the Hoeffner Science and Technology Center and behind Koehler Fieldhouse, both accessible from Normal Street. They’ll use mathematical calculations to figure out how long each piece of tape must be and where the stakes go to create patterns and shapes within the circles similar to those found in string art or the children’s toy Spirograph.

University Store Manager Wins Battle with Brain Tumor, Continues Fighting War
Rick Franzo, department manager for the convenience store on the campus of East Stroudsburg University, will be the first “Survivor Emcee” of the American Brain Tumor Association’s BT5K in New York City. The 5K race will take place on Sunday, November 13 at Hudson River Park – Pier 81 at 9 a.m.
In 2009 Franzo was diagnosed with meningioma, a mostly benign brain tumor, the “size of a cheeseburger.” Since then his journey has been constant – a surgery that lasted over 10 hours, paralysis, rehabilitation, and coming to terms with the person he has become. “A brain tumor literally changes the person you are,” Franzo said. “You have to get used to the new you.”

Student Theatrical Organization, Stage II to Present Anon(ymous) by Naomi Iizuka
The question, which could be taken from any current news story, is key to Naomi Iizuka’s drama, Anon(ymous), a piece that uses the classic story of Homer’s Odyssey to highlight the plight of contemporary refugees. Zoot Fest 2016 will be held on Sunday, November 13th, 2016 at the Cecilia S. Cohen Recital Hall in the Fine and Performing Arts Center at East Stroudsburg University from 3-5 p.m., followed by an after concert party, dinner and VIP reception at the legendary Deer Head Inn in Delaware Water Gap, Pa. from 6-8 p.m. Tickets are $40 for the ESU concert or $80 for an all-inclusive VIP ticket.
